Homemade Chocolate Granola

What is the difference between muesli and granola?
Muesli is typically made of raw oats, nuts, seeds and dried fruit meanwhile granola usually consists of oats, nuts, seeds and dried fruit, that are tossed with oil or butter, sweetened and then baked until the ingredients form crunchy clusters.

Homemade chocolate granola / doma narejena čokoladna granola

This is what I like about granola – crunchiness. And I hate that muesli often contains raisins which I don’t like. So what is better than making some granola at home and then mixing it with raw oats, pouring the mixture with some milk and then adding fresh fruit to get the perfect breakfast? 🙂

I’ve been making my own granola for about two years now. First of all, it is much cheaper than store-bought granola. Secondly, I certainly know what my granola consist of. Thirdly, I can use only ingredients that I like. For example – I hate honey and luckily I discovered that I can tolerate agave syrup. I’ve been using different seeds and nuts and different dark chocolates (for example with raspberries) for it.

Last week I used this recipe:

500 g oats (I prefer rolled, but this time I used quick oats because I already had them at home)
1 pack mixed nuts (chopped)
1 cup mixed seeds
2 tsp cocoa
1/2 cup agave syrup
1/3 cup butter (I used regular one because I didn’t have coconut oil)
1/3 cup brown sugar (you can use less if you like)
100 g dark chocolate (chopped)

In a small sauce pan combine brown sugar, butter, agave syrup and bring to a boil. Remove from heat, add cocoa and mix well (the mixture must be homogenous). In a large bowl combine oats, nuts and seeds, mix well and then stir in sugar/cocoa mixture. Spread into a pan lined with baking sheet. Bake at 170 °C for 15 minutes (mix at a half). Take the pan out of the oven and sprinkle granola with chocolate. Turn off the oven and return the pan into it. Leave for about 2 hours (this helps granola to finish cooking without burning it). Remove from oven and let it cool. Store in an airtight container.

For breakfast I often prepare myself good old oatmeal with raspberries and a little bit peanut butter which I top with banana slices and 2 tablespoons chocolate granola. Yum!

Kakšna je razlika med muesliji in granolo?
Muesli navadno sestavljajo ovseni kosmiči, oreščki, semena in posušeno sadje medtem ko je granola ponavadi sestavljena iz ovsenih kosmičev, oreščkov, semen in posušenega sadja, olja ali masla ter sladila, vse skupaj pa je nato pečeno, da se formirajo hrustljavi skupki.

Ravno hrustljavost pri granoli obožujem. Sovražim pa, da muesliji ponavadi vsebujejo rozine, ki jih ne maram. Kaj je potem boljšega od doma pripravljene granole, ki jo pomešam z ovsenimi kosmiči, dodam mleko ter sveže sadje in dobim popoln zajtrk? 🙂
Granolo doma pripravljam že približno dve leti. Je mnogo cenejša od tistih, ki jih lahko kupimo v trgovinah, točno vem, kaj jo sestavlja, uporabim pa lahko le tiste sestavine, ki jih imam rada. Na primer med sovražim in na srečo sem pred kratkim ugotovila, da toleriram agavin sirup. Pri pripravi granole uporabljam različne oreščke, semena in različne temne čokolade (npr. takšno z malinami).

Prejšnji teden sem uporabila ta recept:

500 g ovsenih kosmičev (rajši imam tiste, ki niso drobljeni, vendar sem tokrat imela doma samo drobljene)
1 paket mešanih oreščkov (nasesekljanih)
1 skodelica mešanih semen
2 žlici kakava v prahu
1/2 skodelice agavinega sirupa
1/3 skodelice masla (uporabila sem kar navadno maslo, saj nisem imela kokosovega olja)
1/3 skodelice rjavega sladkorja (če želiš, ga lahko uporabiš manj)
100 g temne čokolade (nasesekljane)

V manjši posodi segrej maslo, agavin sirup in sladkor do vretja ter nato vmešaj kakav (mešanica mora postati homogena). V večji posodi zmešaj ovsene kosmiče, nasesekljane oreščke in semena ter jih prelij s tekočo mešanico. Dobro premešaj in nato razporedi na pekač, obložen s peki papirjem. Peci 15 minut na 170 °C ter na polovici dobro premešaj. Nato vzami pekač iz pečice in granolo posuj z nasesekljano čokolado. Pečico ugasni, pekač pa vrni nazaj ter ga v ugasnjeni pečici pusti še 2 uri (granola se je v tem času do konca speče, a se ne zažge :)). Pekač po 2 urah vzami iz pečice in granolo ohladi, nato pa jo prestavi v zrakotesni vsebnik.

Za zajtrk si pogosto pripravim ovseno kašo z malinami in malce arašidovega masla, preko pa dam koščke banane in 2 žlici doma pripravljene čokoladne granole. Mmmm! 🙂

I was very busy in December because I decided to make small gift boxes with 4 or 5 different macarons in each. I think the whole idea turned out great. I managed to make some photos of boxes and macarons.

Decembra sem bila zelo zaposlena, saj sem se odločila, da bom naredila praznične darilne škatle s 4 ali 5 različnimi makroni v vsaki in mislim, da je ideja zelo dobro izpadla. Uspelo mi je tudi narediti nekaj fotografij teh paketkov in makrončkov.

I hope I will continue with baking this year and that I will improve my macarons even more. I have problems with our oven again – my macarons started browning and their feet are not OK (more about this in another post), but I hope I will find a solution in the nearest future. I am planning to post my recipe and tips for baking on a blog, because I often get questions how I make them (and this is not a secret because you can find on the internet gazillion posts with recipes and tips for baking :)). I will see how much time I will have in the future.

Upam, da bom v novem letu nadaljevala s peko in da mi uspe moje makrone še bolj izboljšati. Ponovno imam namreč probleme s pečico – makroni mi rjavijo, njihove “nogice” pa niso OK (več o tem v drugi objavi), ampak upam, da mi kmalu uspe najti rešitev. V načrtu imam objaviti recept in navodila za peko makronov, saj pogosto dobivam raznorazna vprašanja o peki (sam recept in postopek pa seveda nista skrivnost, saj na internetu obstaja nešteto objav z recepti in nasveti glede peke makronov). Bom videla, koliko časa bom imela 😉

To je pa trenutno ozadje na mojem prenosniku (klik za ogled celotne fotke, lahko pa jo tudi preneseš :)).

Kljub težavam, s katerimi se zadnje čase soočam, še vedno nastajajo zelo lepi in seveda okusni makroni, le izkoristek glede na pekač je manjši. 🙂
